We transferred from Park Plaza Riverside hotel to Heathrow Airport early morning for our onward flight to Amsterdam for our European River Cruise. We had fun shopping at Heathrow.
We arrived Amsterdam mid afternoon and were chauffeured to the 'Amaverde', one of APT's river boats. We were met by the entire master staff from Captain down. We have been given the royal treatment since boarding.
The welcome dinner hosted by the Captain was a gastronomic experience. A quiet night after dinner as we prepare for Day 1, a coach and canal tour of Amsterdam and cruise to Germany.
Today's insight:
There are over 1 million bicycles in Amsterdam, and only 700,000 locals. So don't be surprised if on your next trip to Amsterdam you witness a strange Amsterdammer performing the double bike ride trick. They're just making use of the equipment they have!

Toni and Gary Wow way too many bikes, I can picture it now you and Bern on you bicycle built for two going down up down trying to get to the other side of town before happy hour ends. Bet you are excited for your river cruise, your next adventure. xx
bernallen So far we have survived the bikes. Thought Amsterdam and surrounding countryside was beautiful. Happy Hour is 24/7 on the boat. The only difference is there is NO COST!! Love hearing from you.
Shane Red lights? Cookies that make you feel funny? I suppose all of this is in a private album...
bernallen B says a lady and a grand-mother never tells. However we were in the red light district but I had neither €50 or 20 minutes to spare and I understand they don't give seniors discounts and anyway the bus just zoomed on!
Mum and Peter Bikes - no, not for me, but hey the tour of Amsterdam and the cruise I reckon I could do.
