Was a bit of a shock coming back to a big city - funny how quickly you get used to less populated areas!
San Fran is a nice city. It feels a bit like Brighton - with it's arty types; liberal-minded peeps; flamboyant gays; and of course, the homeless (of which there seemed to be a lot) - but bigger. It's certainly got bigger bloody hills - which are a great way of getting fit (and a way of limiting the damage caused by weeks of eating out in America)!
Plus it doesn't get too hot here - I think the average high temp in summer is only about 22-25°C!
Another way of burning those calories was to cycle across the bridge and to the suburbs of Sausalito and Tiburon. Although most of it was flat, the occasional hill and strong headwind made it hard work - I was sure glad when we finally made it to the ferry port to take us back!
Anyway, we saw (or didn't see thanks to the infamous fog) the fireworks celebrating July 4th - celebrating independence from Britain I might add (boo)....and the Yanks were helped by the French (even bigger boo)!
We also had great views of the city from Coit Tower; saw the famous wiggly street; and escaped from Alcatraz (I don't know what all the fuss was about - it was easy, I simply got on the ferry!)
