Nha Trang started after our first experience on a sleeper bus. Arriving at 6am both looking a little worse for ware having hardly slept during the twelve hour overnight journey!
At first the bus appeared to be ok, even though it was two hours late to pick us up, we had seats which reclined to a sleeping position and we were on the lower deck so less movement. Pretty sure health and safety would shut this mode of transport down in the UK! Anyways we settled in for the long journey Ben with his book and me with the Ipod just when we thought the bus couldn't take anymore passengers we pickd up a few more and realised they would be sleeping on the floor in between us! Packed in like sardines the bus began to move, lights went out and the snoring commenced!!
Arriving a little worse for wear having hardly slept at 6am we found our way to our hotel, the staff were lovely and let us check straight into the room. So after a few hours kip and feeling slightly more human we ventured out to see the city.
Nha Trang instantly felt different very relaxed and less busy with a lovely stretch of beach over looking a number of islands. We had a stroll along the beach and then found a really lovely bar (bit expensive for our budget) but they had a great little micro brewery and for the price of lunch we could have a tasting tray! Whilst enjoying the local brew we slowly watched as the rain set in and engulfed the islands and then the beach.
After a great nights sleep and feeling completely refreshed we decided to make the most of our last day in Nha Trang before the long bus ride overnight to Siagon.
Outside the sun had finally decided to grace us with its presance and Nha Trang beach looked beautiful. We made the short 2km walk along the beach to the estaury and to the real Nha Trang. A small fishing port where women were drying squid on large framed nets on the street and cooking freshly caught lobster, crab and shrimp on small street fires and in large pans. The fishing boats lined the harbour and were decorated with lots of flags and in bright colours, they even have eyes to help them search out fish!
We had heard about a local spa and crossed the river to seek out miracle mud!!! Tucked away in a residential area of old Nha Trang is a spa, popular with all the locals, which gave us our first experience of a hot mud bath... After soaking for twenty minutes in mud, we then had to let it dry before washing it off and taking a dip in a herb infused bath, followed by a foot massage and a swim in the pool heated to 39 degrees!
Feeling completely relaxed after an afternoon of pampering we decided to get a taxi to a nearby temple but i guess the taxi drivers didn't want to take us becuase they trippled their price. Our only remaining option was the old man who approached us with his moped, so there we were the three of us travelling through the back streets of Nha Trang with me sandwiched between the driver and Ben on the back. I don't think Ben was very happy as I could sense the nervousness from the grip he had around my waist and with no foot holes his feet were skimming dangerously close to the tarmac!!!! Still on the plus side we have now taken everymode of transport Vietnam has to offer, except maybe for Water Buffalo!
The temple was quite different to most we have seen in Vietnam and was built during Kehmer rule, it is perched on the hillside overlooking the river and Nha Trang so we had a fantastic view over the city and surrounding mountains.
Back in new Nha Trang we got some food at the local market before getting on our second sleeper bus to Siagon.
