Day 7 and still in San Sebastian. Had a super long sleep and awoke to gorgeous sunshine and the crashing waves outside the apartment window!
We had a table booked for lunch at a restaurant in Tolorosa, about 20 minutes outside San Seb. With our booking for 1.30, the ever timely Ms Nasralla rocked up at 1.45 and we headed to the sleepy town of Tolorosa.
We entered the restaurant, Casa Julien via a dubious rear door and lots of crates and boxes. The restaurant consisted of one windowless room with blackened ceiling and walls filled with shelves of spirit bottles. In the corner, a fire pit with a couple of metal grills and containing several large slabs of cow. No English, no menu, no prices. We ate lomo and Serrano ham, white asparagus, a slab of char grilled steak (blue) and roasted peppers washed down with the house rioja. Amazing.
After a run (yes, a run!) around San Seb we headed out again for more pintxos (in the rain) including tuna tatare, baby squid and croquetas. And more wine. Could really get used to this...! Last night in San Seb tonight though and will be saying adios to San Seb, Spain and Sara tomorrow (who has been an amazing host/tour guide/feeder) and it's been lovely catching up with my (Jen's) friend of nearly 18 years!
