Day 24 and our last night of our honeymoon.... Journey from Turin to Lyon was largely uneventful (except an upsetting €37 toll at the Frejus tunnel on our way back to France - ouch!)
Our hotel, Cour des Loges, is beautiful and possibly the loveliest place I think we've ever stayed... In the middle of the old town, it has bags of character and is incredibly luxurious - including a spa area and gardens. Lyon is hot. As hot as the rest of Southern Europe. At least 35C and it's 5pm... So what do we do? Hit the gym and then the exercise pool!
On returning to our room we've had a bottle of champagne delivered (thank you Mummy G, Peter and Andi!) and make the most of it whilst getting ready for our evening meal... After putting our booking back and keeping the taxi waiting (yes we were running late) we headed to Auberge de L'Ile, our two Michelin starred dinner destination.
The restaurant was about 15 minutes outside town on Ile Barbe in the middle of the river Saône. Staff outnumbered the diners as we chose the tasting menu with matching wines for a real last night treat. Food was presented like works of art and it just kept coming! Jen's highlight: Eau de tomate served in a martini glass like an Irish Coffee (complete with frothy cream). Ben's highlight: Gaspacho with langoustine and avocado cream.
Several hours later we rolled back to our room (almost) grateful we'll be back to the beans on toast tomorrow!!
For our meal, thank you to Richard and James, Susan and Terry, Katie H, Paul and Louise, Ian, Jo and Lucy, Mary and Luke and Nik (yes it was that expensive!)
For our hotel, thank you to Scottie and Claire and Val and Simon.
Now to Paris!
