Sunday July 1 (Dunstaffnage, Dunbeg Bay) The day started in teeming rain, but by the time we were off it had stopped and the sun was out - Four Seasons in One Day is the theme tune for these parts evidently. We motor-sailed back down the Sound of Mull and rounded Lismore Island, Cath helming while I snoozed in the sunny cockpit. We had a good pontoon berth in Dunstaffnage marina, and had welcome showers (having declined the offer of the Youth Hostel in Tobermory...

Saturday 30 June (Tobermory) Happy Birthday to Mike and to Ale!!I really wanted to carry on north and get to Skye with Cath, but once again the weather turned against us, and rounding Ardnamurchan Point with the predicted F6 and sea state rough would have been lunacy, so we revised our plans and stayed put that day, catching up with some boat maintenance and 'doing' Tobermory. We enjoyed a dish of venison stew at a café in a rather quirky old converted church...

Friday 29 June (Kerrera to Tobermory) Booked ourselves into Oban Marina for the return stays, and set off for Tobermory, up the Sound of Mull, in dry weather with 20k of wind. At exactly1346, in position N56º27'.14 W005º40'.06, Vega passed the 1000nM point on our Circumnav, and I texted the whole world with the news. As we passed Loch Aline we were greeted by Sandra Millar(friend of friend of Hugh), who hoisted a saltire on the hillside above the harbour....

Thursday 28 June (Oban Marina, Kerrera Island)Rain, rain and more rain! Cath braved it to take the ferry back to Oban to complete shopping, while I re-installed the Autohelm, which had been delivered back very promptly - and it works! We will have to go through the process of going slowly round in circles to set the compass deviation once we get back to sea. I did some odd jobs about the boat and Cath did our laundry, and in the evening we ate yet more oysters a...

Wednesday 27 June (Oban)Took the (free) ferry across from the marina to Oban itself. The ferry, an open boat, runs every hour. During the Classic Malts Rally it will be supplemented by another small ferry and one enormous catamaran which was being commissioned during our stay here. We had a good pub lunch of haggis with all the trimmings, and an afternoon wandering and shopping. I was able to make contact with Robert of Boat Electronics, who had managed to locate...
