Today was the day, hours of searching blogs and various websites and one of the things I was most excited about - bamboo island! We weren't leaving until 3 so the morning was spent relaxing in the air con and various trips to the pool. We also walked into town to get our supplies for our trip - this consisted of bog roll, fanta, fruit juice, Pringles some other various 7eleven goodies and a litre of rum! We were all set for our night on a deserted island.
We boarded our long tail with our crazy driver and set off - these islands are some of the most breathtaking things I've even seen, even after multiple day trips and 2 weeks of island hoping, just bouncing along the waves watching the magnificent limestone cliffs fly by is still something that amazes me! We pulled away from the main island as mosquito islands and bamboo island appear in the distance. Thailand is a place where the pictures you see do it no justice and bamboo island wasn't an exception. As we pulled up you can see the hoards of day trippers (which I knew would be there) the beach was nearly full and it didn't feel like the small Deserted Island you would come here for.
We got off our longtail and found the rangers post where you can rent a tent for the night, happily the tents were already erected and we dropped our stuff and headed to beach. With our bat and ball and frisby in hand we spent the next couple of hours swimming and playing amongst the hoards. Around 5.30 we decided to walk round the island and find a nice spot to watch the sunset and that's exactly what we found - a secluded part of the beach with the sun slowly dropping behind the silhouette of misquote island! Paradise!
We sat and watched until the sun had fully set and made our way back to the main beach. As we arrived it was like walking onto a different island - everyone had gone except the park rangers. We had the entire beach to our selves and it left the island feeling the way it should, deserted. We dropped our stuff at the tent and grabbed our supplies and headed to the beach to watch the last of the light fade away. Once the light had gone we made our own mood lighting using half full fanta bottles and head torches - we drank rum, played cards and chatted untill around 11 o'clock when we went to bed - another early morning and busy day tomorrow!
