In Geelong we stayed with my mum's friend Frances from school in St Andrews, her husband David and their lovely golden retriever Jess. It was so nice to stay in an actual house for a change, with a nice comfy bed and sofa! In hostels we're constantly surrounded by other people, so it was really refreshing to have some time to relax. Jess was so well patted she must have had a sore head by the time we left!
After a much needed good nights sleep, we spend the morning around the house and doing our clothes washing!! Ben then went to the barbers to get his hair sheared off and left feeling a stone lighter i think. After lunch, Frances drove us into town where we walked along the seafront and out on the pier. There were lots of funny bollards depicting different characters from the town, like sailors and swimmers...we spend some time taking silly photos as you will see!
In the evening, David drove us out to a golf course to see our first kangaroos! We couldnt believe it when we got there, there must have been about 100 kangaroos covering the green, in the way of all the golfers and not about to budge! We walked down the practice green and got really close to them. We also saw some little joeys trying to learn to bounce :) Their feet are much bigger than i thought, and they seem to use their tails as an extra leg when they are standing still. When we got back, Frances and Davids children came over to join us for a BBQ...very good steak! Fiona brought her golden retriever puppy Jake over as well, who ran riot! Good job he was cute enough to get away with it.
