After our overnight flight, we got to Melbourne after very little sleep, got to our hostel and went straight to the MCG to watch the cricket. Dedication indeed, but we couldn't miss that opportunity! Was an awesome day, even if there weren't many runs and India won, which meant large amounts of screaming and yelping for the whole day, not by us!
The rest of Melbourne was really nice too. Spent 4 days in the city and 4 days in St Kilda, which is closer to the beach. Both were really nice, and our hostels were really good. Met some German girls in our first hostel which gave us a chance to get out our wide German vocabulary! Unfortunately we didn't have a swimming pool for to ask about, or a pencil case!
We managed to get ourselves a free 2 week membership to Fitness First which means we can go to any gym nationwide. Got to the gym three times in Melbourne (Note please Gareth Davies) and have about a week remaining on it. Apart from that a few trips to the beach and the infamous 'Neighbours Night' were highlights.
3 days ago we left Melbourne, an early 6.30 rise and headed for Sydney on our Oz Experience bus. A bus full of 22 other people turned out to be a great experience, and our guide was really good. Went to some really amazing places alng the way.... We first headed to Wilson's Promontory National Park, which is in the south-east of Australia, and where the southernmost point of the mainland is. There were some really amazing views here from Pillar Point, and walking on Squeaky Beach was cool. It really does squeak!! (Will try and upload a video). We also went to Lakes Entrance and walked on 90 mile beach, both of which were very impressive.
After a night in a hostel we had another 6.30 rise to head into the Snowy Mountains, and the highest peak in Australia, Mount Kosciusco. This was really cool, and we saw a fair amount of wildlife. A group of kangaroos, a wombat, and also a snake. We had an 8km hike up the mountain to see Blue Lake which was nice, though our feet are feeling it now! Weather has been really great too, but meant all the ski resorts looked a little out of place with no snow to be seen.
The final day of our trip took us to the capital of Australia, Canberra. We had a tour of Parliament House and saw the senate and the house of representatives. We were all a little hungover from the previous night, but managed to take in some of the 2 hour tour! And so we have arrived in Sydney.... We are staying at Grant and Victoria's at the moment. Really good to catch up with them. Been tired today but hopefully with some nice weather tomorrow we will get out and see some of what Sydney has to offer!!
