Hi we've now been in Seattle for 3 days so here's what we've been up to.
We arrived in Seattle to rain. Apparently they have been having really hot weather and no rain for the last 4 months and the day we arrive it decides to rain! Anyway, the hotel we are staying in is in a really good position so there aren't as many scary people around as San Francisco! We are right in the city centre so everything is easy to get around and there's a shopping mall with a food court so we can eat really cheaply!
On our first day we went to Pike Place market which is the oldest farmers market in America. We saw the very first Starbucks and had a coffee in Post Alley which is famous in Seattle for it's cafes. Speaking of cafes Seattle really is the coffee capital of the world. There is a Starbucks or a cafe on literally every corner! Next we went for a walk along the waterfront where there are lots of piers and touristy shops. For lunch we had soup in a sourdough roll. I had clam chowder which Seattle is famous for.
The next day we walked to Pioneer Square which is where Seattle was first settled. We did an underground tour which showed where the original street level was underground in the 1800's and how they raised the street level to the 2nd floor after a big fire. We learnt lots about Seattle's history and it was really weird to see old shop and hotel fronts underground. After the tour we walked to the international district where Chinatown is.
After some brief sunshine yesterday (we were actually able to sit outside for lunch!) today is really cloudy and raining again which is why we're hiding out in the internet cafe! We're hoping the weather will be better again tomorrow so we can get some good views from the space needle, so we'll let you know how that goes.
