Hi guys, we've made it to Canada! Here's what we've been up to since the last entry.
On our last day in Seattle we got the monorail to the Space Needle where you go up in a glass lift to an observation deck which is 520 feet above the city. We got a 360 degree view of the city although it was raining which spoilt the view a bit. I was so scared in the lift on the way up I shut my eyes the whole way but on the way back down I was brave enough to open them and got a good view of the city from the lift. Back on solid ground we visited the Experience Music Project which has lots of rock n roll memorabilia like Seattle born, Jimmy Hendrix's guitar and song lyrics hand written by another Seattle born star Kurt Cobain. Next we visited the very nerdy, Sci Fi hall of fame (only because this was included in the price of our ticket to the Experience Music Project!).
The next day we left for Victoria on Vancouver Island. Victoria is supposed to be a really British place where you can get cream teas and fish and chips! When we arrived we had a quick look round the harbour and saw the old Parliment Buildings and the Empress Hotel which is famous for serving very expensive afternoon teas. We also walked to chinatown where there was a street market to wander round. The next day we explored the town a bit more and went to Market Place which has lots of old buildings and cute touristy shops. We went to the harbour and had fish and chips for lunch (had to be done!). It was really nice to be able to wander round a town without having to do lots of sightseeing and be able to take the place in.
The next day we got the bus and ferry to Vancouver. Finally we are in luck and having some really hot and sunny weather! It's so nice to be able to walk around sightseeing in the sunshine, it really makes a city look loads better! On our first day in Vancouver we walked to Canada Place on the waterfront where there are views of the sea and mountains. Although Vancouver is a big city with lots of sky scrapers, it's really close to the countryside and we got some great views from here. We could even see snow on the mountains in the distance! In the afternoon we explored the city and did a bit of window shopping!
On our second day in Vancouver we walked to Gastown which is the historic area of Vancouver. We saw lots of old buildings, cobbled streets and a steam clock! We went to the Police museum where there was an old morgue and room where they did autopsies. They still had the "slabs" that they did the autopsies on and lots of information on crime scene investigation which was all a bit gruesome but really interesting. In the afternoon we walked to Chinatown and visited some Chinese Gardens which were really beautiful and peaceful.
Today we've just had a day enjoying the sun down on the waterfront reading a book and listening to our Ipods!
We have a few more days in Vancouver so we'll update you again soon.
