Hi guys, since we last updated the journel we've been in Napier for 3 nights and Wellington for 4 nights.
Napier was a nice seaside town. In 1931 there was a big earthquake here which destroyed the whole city. By 1933 the city had been rebuilt in the Art Deco style which was popular at the time. We did a guided walk of the city to see lots of the Art Deco buildings and architecture which was really interesting. We also visited the National Aquarium of New Zealand where we saw more Kiwi birds.Â
To relax we decided to have a game of crazy golf by the beach. I did quite well and only lost to Ben by 3 points and even got a hole in 1 which Ben didn't he he!
On our second day in Napier we did a wine tasting tour of the Hawkes Bay area which is a famous wine making area in New Zealand. We visited 5 wineries and 1 brewery totalling about 40 samples! We did get to try some lovely wines, ciders and beers so we'll be able to recommend some good ones when we get home!Â
Then we moved onto Wellington which is the capital of New Zealand. The first day here it rained really badly so we visited their new museum which is huge and they have spent a lot of money on. We may have to enter mastermind when we get home with all we've learnt at all these museums! The next day was cold but really sunny so we went on the cable car ride to a lookout point where you can see lovely views of the city. We had a walk around the botanic gardens and then got the cable car back down to the city centre. In the afternoon we felt like doing something "normal" so we went to watch Pirates of the Carribean 3 at the cinema which was awesome!
Next we get the ferry over to Picton on the South Island so we'll update again soon.
