We left Lisbon after having a bit of a lie in on the 12th. All of that walking from the day before had caught up with us. There was only a short trip on the agenda today and that was to get down to the Algarve. We decided to take the coastal road and check out the smaller villages. The first village that we called into was Sines. We were both blown away by this little piece of paradise. The beach was just amazing and all we wanted to do was get in the water but we didn't as we had more driving ahead of us. We continued along the coast until we got to a place called Sagres which is basically the most western tip of Portugal. This time we sat down on the beach for an hour or so then made our way to Lagos which was bustling with tourists but that didn't surprise us at all. There were Aussies all over the place. After having some lunch at McDonald's, we went down to the closest beach to get some rays and go for a swim. The water was so cold that neither of us went for a swim. We opted to stay just outside of Lagos in another village called Alvor. It took us quite a while to find the campsite but we can blame that on the sat nav.
The 13th was our day to relax so that is what we did. The first thing we did was head down to the beach at Alvor. The beach was already packed by the time we got down there and it was only 10am. But we noticed that most people weren't really there to swim but to just sun bake. We couldn't understand why that was so because the water was crystal clear. After spending a couple of hours in the sun we went back into Lagos to check out the sights. Once we'd done Lagos we headed for another popular area called Praia La Rocha. We'd seen it on a postcard and thought it looked great so that's why we decided to go there. Just after we arrived at there the wind picked up and started to blow sand all over the place which wasn't great so we ended up leaving after about 30mins. That night we headed out in Alvor to check out the nightlife. The streets were just full of the English which really ruined the atmosphere but we still had fun and enjoyed a drink at a nice cocktail bar.
Today there was only a short drive ahead of us today. We moved east slightly to a small village just outside of Tavira. We spent a couple of hours on a small island which was really great. The water on the ocean side of the island was full of seaweed and other debris so we moved over to the other side where the water was a bit cleaner. The water was quite cold but we got used to it after spending a bit of time in it.
