Our ferry arrived in Patras around lunchtime and we drove east towards Korinthos to camp for the night. On the way we had a quick look at the Korinthos Canal. The campsite we stayed at for the night was right on the beach, but wasn't very busy, a sign that the high season was coming to an end. After going for a swim, we were sitting just outside our van chilling out with some beers (called Vergina!), when a small white van with an elderly lady pulled up next to us.She had overheard us talking in English so decided to come over and say hello.Jan was an Australian lady from Perth, and a retired PE teacher. She told us that she was travelling on her own and hadn't spoken to anyone in English for a long time, so she parked her van and pulled up a chair beside us and we had a long chat. She had left Perth in January 07 and had given herself 2 years to travel around Europe with a van she bought from a friend in Germany; she had been camping in Greece for over a month. She told us some great stories, and over the years has travelled to some amazing places all over the world. She ended up having dinner with us and we chatted late into the night, she even gave us an Aussie flag sticker to put on our van because we told her we were sick of people thinking we were British because of the GB sticker on the van, as well as some fish fingers to eat cause she had too many!Talking to Jan has definitely inspired us to travel more and more, and it showed us that we didn't have to worry about cramming everything in now while we are still young, that we could still make the time later in life to explore the world. Now we can't help but talk about where we'll be travelling next!
The next day we decided to head south and explore the Peloponnese region of Greece a little more, on the recommendation of Jan.We first drove to the ancient town in Korinthos, then to Mycenae on the top of a hill, then to the southern coastal town of Nafplio, a very pretty town with a fortress high up on a hill.Bek couldn't be bothered climbing the hundreds of stairs to get to the top and window shopped while she waited for Ben to do it, which took a lot out of him, and his calves suffered for a few days afterwards. We found a campsite near the beach in a town called Tolo that afternoon.
