1..2..3.. JUMP!
Those were the last three words I heard before I plummeted to my death, 4200 feet in the air above Prague. Just kidding! Lucky the man I strapped to my back was carrying a parachute.
When I arrived in Prague 2 days ago, skydiving hadn't even crossed my mind. Courtney Neumann, a Canadian I met whilst in Amsterdam put the question to me that if she was do go whould I go with her..? When in Prague I always say..
5800 Czech Krown for the dive plus a DVD video of the whole experience as well as a CD with photos. So at 11pm this morning we arrived eager, yet slightly nervous, ready to take the plunge. Our group of 9 was split into 3 Courtney and myself in group three meaning we would be going last. After suiting up appropriately it was just a matter of waiting for the other groups to jump. In the big orange plane we all took our seats, I was last on... oh s*** that means I'm first off. The nerves didn't quite hit until I looked out the window and when I thought we were at the drop point we began to climb further. When will it end! worried glances back at Courtney didn't help. Neither the Czech man telling me that all the other parachutes were made in USA therefore quality, whereas mine was manufactured in China - sure to break!
The moment of truth had arrived. The roller door was opened, the goggles were strapped on and my mate was explaining the exit procedure. Backwards banana, forward banana.. very helpful. 1..2..3 Green light GO! possilbly the most exhilarating and frightening moment of my life. No control of where I'm falling I'm completely in the hands of gravity, and folks, gravity always wins. The scenery however is beautiful. Rolling hills, bright green paddocks and crystal blue lakes. What a sight! A summersault here and there then a tap on the shoulder to signal the pulling of the shoot! Ahhhh graceful gliding through the sky. Coudl stay here all day.
But what goes up must come down and soon after it was legs and straight and my arse hit the ground with enough force to make one believe I'd broken something. A photo and handshake with the man on my back and I was done! still shaking with adrenelin I found Courtney some feet away It seems she had the same luck with the landing as I did. WE DID IT!! WOOHOO. Celebratory drinks tonight and many adventures to come!
