Hi everybody.
This is our first blog from Vietnam. We joined our new group in Ho Chi Minh City / HCMC ( Saigon) for 4 days ago. Since then, we have had one homestay in the Mekong Delta. It was "amazing" ;) going out there with this little boat on Mekong River. When we arrived the homestay, our family had arranged hammocks and dinner, it was just so an "amazing" experience.
After that, we visited a place just outside of HCMC where there had been hard battles between the US soldiers and the VC (Viet Cong) during the Vietnamese War. The VC had digged really stunning underground tunnelsystems, so that they could sneak up on the US soldiers behind their lines etc. Here we had the possibility to fire guns for those who wanted that (we didn' t), and to walk trough some of the underground tunnels. It was so exciting to crawl through the tunnels, having in mind that the VC's did this with the US bombs falling on the ground just above them. It is hard to try an imagine what that must have felt like...
In HCMC we went to a big market (unsure if it was the Russian market or not), but is was GREAT. There you could by everything, and if you are good at barging (prute), you can get it for half the price they want for it :o) After the market we went to The War Remanent Museeum, where we could read and see a lot of pictures from the Vietnamese War and some plains, helicopters and "panser-wagons" (forgot the name for this one ;) We really enjoyed this.
Yesterday we went with the overnight train from HCMC to Nha Trang, a costal city. The overnight train was just soo good, we had our own coupe with TV and the toilet facilities was great. We arrived Nha Trang this morning at about 06.30. After that we have just been laying on the beach, swimming and enjoyed a relaxing day. This evening a couple of us are going to have SUSHI :o) I'm SOOOOOOOOO looking forward to that. Tomorrow we are going out on a boat, Jon's diving and I'm snorkelling. Can't wait :o)
Tomorrow afternoon we take the overnight train to the city Hoi An, which is famous for it's silk clothing, excellent tailors and good prices. Just too bad my backback is FULL already.....and that's after my mum took 10 kg for us, with her back home... Oh, not to forget - I bought 2 more paitings today.
They are just............................. "AMAZING" ;o)
Hope you are all doing good, and have recovered from the Eurovision Song Contest and the 17th of May... :o)
Looking forward hearing from you all.
Klem M&J
:o)
