Hey so tomorrow we are leaving buenos aires. i think we all love this city.
lots to tell...second day we signed up to go on a walking tour with the hostel tour guide called Amalia. she was kinda a bit wacky at times and gave us a giggle! we went to see the university. it is free to everyone even if ur foreign we can study there for free. which is fascinating. any intellecutal level too. usually takes 6 years to complete a degree. we saw a large arty flower which was designed and built by an artist. youll have to see the photos to know what i mean. we visited the rich part of the city and there is a hotel that provides "all of the services" as amalia said 3 times! an expensive w**** house above a cartier where the clients have to shower the girls in jewellery! also went to an art gallery which was quite nice. we had lunch-empandas for me!
Then went to the cemetry where all the rich and famous from the city are buried including presidents and Eva Peron. it is the most bizarre place and concept i have ever seen. the sheer height and scale of the monuments. and in most you can see the coffins through the doors and windows. its just the freakiest place ive ever been to. us 3 had the giggles really bad, probably cus it was uncomfortable and bizarre but some looked like banks and all sorts. just weird.
that evening we went to a tango night which included a tango lesson, 3 course meal and a tango show. the lesson was with a guy called Alejandro and he was very funny. there was about 20 in the class, more women so the men had to rotate. some were awful as was i. i was stood near where the teacher was so every new sequence he taught i ended up having to dance with him as did natalie! to pass 2 couples had to do the routine perfectly and hannah got chosen by one of the men and they passed!
next onto the meal, it was lovely...salad, steak and brownies and icecream :) whilst watching the tango show. it was through the ages the evolution of tango so began in 1900 and up to present day. it was incrediable, there was 6 dancers and 2 singers. just utterly mesmerising and the music was live too, ive never seen an acordion played live before and that i found incredible too. such an odd concept can make a lovely noise.
when we got back we got changed and went to the other milhouse hostel for the nightly party and met up with some people from the tour and tango show, British girls and a few others. had cocktails, had a good ole dance then went to a bar til 5am. i got bored of an aussie ego obsessed man and utterly rude against anyone different from himself so i left at 5 am. its amazing that in Buenos Aires where we are i felt safe walking the streets alone. i did it twice that night, from one hostel to another at like 2:30 and 5am. u cant feel any safer.
yesterday we got up later than usual and had a chill day. we went on the subway to Plaza Italia and Palermo and walked through the plaza there and around a few of the streets. it was pleaseant. and in the evening we went to San Telmo part of the city to look for another tango place but as it was thursday the bars that u can eat n watch for cheap werent open just the arranged tango specialised events. so we had dinner and headed back.
Today me and natalie went over to Uruguay on the Buquebus boat. it only cost around £35 return to another country. and we only spent £20 wen we were there. its so cheap. we went to a place called Colonia Del Sacremento. It was a lovely place. cobbled streets in the old part with a very spenish feel. little bars on the sea front. we wandered for a while and found a nice little bar to have some beers and sit in the sun for a couple hours. then carried on wandering. one of the hightlights for me so far. Immigration was strange. in argentina before we left we handed in passports etc and the first guy would scan then pass it on to the uruguay national that is sat next to him and theyd do the stamping of passports for leaving argentina and entering uruguay. so we had entered without even leaving argentina. so no customs on the other side! easy! and same on the way back.
Its almost midnight now so not sure how today is gona play out, but leaving for mendoza tomorrow evening, another 15hours on a bus overnight! have booked a nice sounding hostel just hope its ok as havent heard anything about it.
hope everyone is good.
