Bit of a delay in writing the santiago side of everything.
First day in santiago we joined a free walking tour by a local and he was so informative and took us around the city for 4 hours. It was fairly chilly that day, but we saw all the historical and prominent buildings and learnt all about them. we saw the presidents place in the city in a plaza. there are police everywhere in chile, literally a couple on most corners and everywhere in plazas. We had a meal at a Peruvian cafe for lunch just before the tour and i was chuffed cus it was the first time i had seen advocado on the menu anywhere in south america so i had them stuffed with peas, salad, mayo chickpeas and more, it was so nice to have something healthy after all the meat we have eaten! we went in there cus i walked by and spotted a guy drinking inca cola and told natalie and that was it we had to have inca cola, haha! it was actually nice drink! very yellow! Later we went for a drink in our area of Bellavista and some Chilean guys were chatting to us. was so cold in the evening tho!
Next day we went to Valparaiso which is a port town an hour and half away from Santiago. We took the metro tube to the bus station and got on a bus to there. it wasnt what we were expecting, we thought beaches etc and didnt find such things. instead it was really run down and looking quite dodgy, so we wandered and found somewhere to eat. we are the chilean national dish seemingly of chorillanas which is beef chips salad, fried eggs, pork all in a big pile! it was better than it looked but totally unhealthy! We caught thebus back, and went round the local markets in bellavista.
Went to a local recommended bar, always busy, i had a steak which was cooked lovely with salad. that was our last night all together for our trip.
Friday natalie left for the airport after breakfast so me and hannah packed and then decided to go for a coffee, i had a lovely pizza filling toasted sandwich, was nice. an idea i will remember for back home! then we spent the day wandering round the city stopping in all the little markets we found. got some nuts4nuts, they are delicious. highly recommend the peanuts! got back 10mins late for our taxi to the airport but he waited so all good. checked in and waited around for a few hours then said bye to hannah and left for atlanta.
Waiting in atlanta was 4hours and annoying really. didnt fancy eating. i boarded the plane as one of the first people and then boarding stopped and we were told we had no pilot so it was gona be an hour later. i decided to stay on the plane and 2hours later a sub turned up and said he gave up his golf game to fly us to guatemala!
It was incredible sights flying into guatemala city. i was 2 hours late arriving but the spanish school guy was still waiting and we got stuck in traffic and so it took an hour n half to get to Antigua but im here now.
I arrived in the school house and i was greeted by Estella, the housemaid. she had made me lunch so warmed it up for me, gave me a map and showed me around. all conversation was in spanish and i was actually able to speak a fair bit n understand! she said i was the only person for saturday and 1 guy will arrive sunday then she left until monday so i was in this massive house alone. so i got a bag together locked up and walked the streets trying to find a hostel ive heard of. black cat, took about an hour but checked in for the night and met a nice group of people. so had food and drinks with them last night!
New day today. see what it brings. antigua is getting ready for their easter celebrations. its busy
