Cairns & the end of Australia
Final stop in OZ and I couldn't believe it. Couldn't have been sadder to leave! Very emotional.
Had a crazy 13 hour bus journey from Airlie to Cairns. It was our last OZ bus too. It was all just so sad. Heading up to Cairns was Steph (from everywhere), Aimee & Sarah (from Byron) and Laura (from Fraser). Just chilled out doing nothing & it didn't feel that long in the end. Officially now travelled the East coast!
Got to Cairns & checked into our hostel Gilligans which was a bloody lovely place. Instantly gutted that I only had one night there.
We had to get ready really quickly & make our way for dinner with the bus crew. Went to the Woolshed which was quite like Cheeky Monkeys in Byron! Nothing wrong with that. Lovely meal & good drinks deals. We played the pub quiz and won VIP passes for the best team name. This genius name came from a text from my filthy friend from work - thanks Frankie! 'If they're old enough to crawl, they're in the right position!' Ewwwww.
Drank and Boogied for a while but didn't stay out too late. Called it a night.
In the morning, I had to get up, pack, chuck loads away so my bag was ok to take to the USA and then check out.
Wondered round Cairns with Dan, it is actually really lovely and I would have loved a few more days there. Went to the espinade, the lagoon and to the mall where I finally bought a new camera...needed!
Then I had no time really and had to go catch my flight to Brisbane. Said goodbye to Dan which was really weird after spending a whole month with him!
Caught my flight & checked back into Base Hostel in Brisbane. Ended up in a room with 3 French guys who could only speak limited English & just kept telling me I was beautiful and trying to pull me off my bed to dance. I ran away to the computers for a few hours to hide, but when I got back one kept trying to get in my bed & massage me so I had to tell him to f*** off! The fire alarm went off at 4am too and we had to evacuate. Of course it was by accident...it's full of drunken travellers! Classic night in Base!
So morning rolled around & I was back to the airport to catch my flight to LA. As the plane took off & I looked out the window I realised just how lucky I've been to be able to spend a month in this beautiful country. I will definitely return to Australia. Not sure when or how, but I have fallen in love with it.
As corny as it is.....to wrap up OZ.....
I've had the time of my life & I have learnt to live, laugh, love, learn, dream and be happy! Worth every penny and hopefully made some friends for life! Can't believe I have 10 weeks left
On to the USA. Thank you Australia :o)
