Right OK - Hello again
Blog entry number 2. Decided to do it by city, thought that would be easiest!
I OFFICIALLY LOVE MELBOURNE. If it wasn't so far away, I'd be living here without a doubt. Can someone get a boat and a tow rope and just pull it over to the UK?
DAY 1:
Rocked up in Melbourne (AUSTRALIA wooohoooo) after a flight of zero sleep. Not because I couldn't nod off, but because I watched The Social Network and Love & Other Drugs on the way over. Justin Timberlake has still got it and OMG, how ridiculously hot is Jake Gyllenhaal?!!! How did I never realise? Watch that film!
So I waited at the airport for Dan (my friend from work for those who don't know. He is coming here for a few weeks and tagging on to my journey). Nice to see a friendly face and we got on the bus to our hostel and had catch up. We couldn't check into our hostel for a while so we took a walk down to the beach where I got a bit over excited and started to run around and do cartwheels along the sand! We sat down to get in the first pint and some food on the beach. Damn good it was too in the sun.....until I fell asleep in my deck chair (damn you hot ass Jake Gyllenhaal) and got burnt. One random patch across my thigh, not a good bikini look - just another factor to add to making me look like a prize prat!
When we got back to the hostel and got sorted we headed into town. Realised pretty quickly that we were knackered though. Sat down for just a second and a bird shat on Dan!!! HAHA! I of course found this very amusing, but unfortunately Dan was covered in s*** so it wasn't so fun or him! It then started to chuck it down so I bought a trusty $5 brolly from Seven Eleven. Of course it was crap and broke within about 5 minutes, but I ain't getting rid of it. I'm gonna milk that $5! Decided just to go back and sleep as we were both Zombified. I struggled though as my dreams consisted of Spiders eating me in OZ so I kept waking up to look around and ensure that my cover was so tight over every inch of my body that I was practically suffocating!
DAY 2:
I was super excited out today. The lovely Warren (a friend from work at Disney) born and bred in Melbourne happened to be home for a visit while we were there and agreed to show us about for the day. I knew it would be awesome to get a tour round from someone who knows where they are going. We all met up at Transport Bar in Federation Square (my new favourite place) and started drinking. I was drunk after 1 pint of cider but please bear in mind that it was only 12 o'clock and all I'd eaten was a bowl of Coco the Monkey's finest Pops! Warren showed us around the legal graffiti alleys of Melbourne and all the awesome artwork over town and took us through streets and to rooftop bars that we would never have known existed unless he showed us.
We headed back to where we started to meet up with some friends of Warren's, but not before we grabbed food and I got introduced to CHICKEN SALT. It's like salt, but Chicken salt and tastes amazing. I need to smuggle a bottle home. This my favourite new food type thing :o)
I could go on for hours explaining ths night, but all you need to know was that I met some awesome, fun people, I got ridiculously drunk on cider, vodka and Tequila shots. Dan drank what like 12, 14 beers?! We ended up in 2 bar/clubs dancing like mental. I got told off by a bouncer for dancing on a table (thanks Warren), there was bin surfing, we scratched on some decks at Dougie's house (random) and I had one of the best nights I'd had in ages! Epic......
Day 3:
.......Needless to say I had the hangover from hell, but oh crap, that's the alarm and I have to go to the Grand Prix. I feel like death so let's go and listen to cars that sound like jet engines to help my headache!
It was just practice laps, but we got 3 hours of F1 action. Those cars are amazing. Unbelieveable machines. I got such a rush from watching them. I got star struck every time Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button whizzed by! It was amazing. I bought a Jenson Button hat. I'm clearly never going to wear this again, but it just had to be done. The rest of this day was a write off as we were so hammered from the night before!
Day 4:
Randomly decided to meet up wth my friend from uni, the beautiful Bella Newton who I hadn't relaised was living in Mebourne until I was there. Bella lives in St. Kilda where I was staying so we met up and had breakfast together in a cute cafe on a lovely street called Acland Street. It's full of clothes shops, cake shops and cafes. Had a lovely catch up as I haven't seen her in years and she showed me around the area and took me for a walk down to the pier where we were lucky enough to see a penguin! Toooo cute. There was some evil murderer man killing starfish though...not so cute.
I then headed back into town to catch up with Dan who had gone to visit an old friend and we went up the Eureka tower - tallest building in town and got a freaky 88th floor view of the city. Gorgeous, but damn heights freak me out. We were catching a bus to Sydney at 8pm so we had to go back to our hostel and get our stuff. We didn't plan into our journey to get the bus that the Grand Prix traffic would be pretty crazy. We were late and we were not too sure where the bus stop even was!
Dan tried to run ahead to get to the bus first, but I lost sight of where he went and then it hit me. Oh f***. I've lost him, he's done one, where am I gonna sleep tonight now? I was pegging it as fast as I could with that 30kg idiotic amount of back package that I insist on carting around and trying avoid all the people in town on a Saturday night as I did it. Pretty sure I took out 3 kids and an old age pensioner during my mad run for the bus, but hopefully their hospital bills were relatively small. God knows how, but I found the bus and found Dan and we made it on! Oops! Won't be doing that again. Always leave plenty of time people.
That in very short form wraps up Melbourne, but what a city and I have a definite feeling that this was not the last time I will be spending time there. I got a good quote from a man with a boat and a really thick tow rope!
On to Sydney :o)
