Hello again peeps
No time to waste, gotta update you on Sydney!!!
DAY 1:
So we checked into our room at Wake Up Hostel after our long old Greyhound journey. We were staying in an 8 bed dorm this time and met our new roomies who were all lovely.
Dan and I went staright into town to see some sights and get our first fix of the Harbour Bridge and Opera house. We had breakfast in an Itallian place, which had some kind of egg special, but I managed to turn this into a bad boy bacon sarnie so that was all good by me. It was Grand Prix day so there was coverage everywhere of Melbourne which looked gorgeous and sunny. Sydney however sucked and started to piss it down and wasn't being shy about it! It's still beautiful when wet, but we could have done without it.
We decided to take a stroll through the botanical gardens. I'd forgotten how scary it was in there. Bats all over the show and huge man eating eight legged freaks everywhere just waiting to pounce on me. We got stuck in hardcore rain in a random section of the gardens that had a childrens train parked up. Picture the scene. Sheets of rain, Dan taking cover on a bright red train and me with my brolly surrounded by HUGE spiders whilst from a house nearby Frank Sinatra sung his swinging tunes. RANDOM. If I'd wanted a ride on the theme park train through Spider World whilst being serenaded by Frank then really I would have bought a ticket. I couldn't wait to run out of there!
We managed to get out alive and had a few drinks and a nice chat in a funky bar called Carivargyle. We then made it back to whip up our own grub and made dinner with our new roomies!
DAY 2:
Had a lovely night's sleep and a good snooze in bed and finally out the window...sun! Took the opportunity to get to Manly today. This is a small town which you get to by ferry from the harbour. We chilled out on the beach and then got some lunch in the Steyne Hotel Pub which was my brother's old hang out when he used to live there which was nice. I then busiest myself with my friends Ben and Jerry (cookie dough mmmm) and made some sandcastles and a sand man. I am hoping he will bring me a dream. I then stood all over his face though so he probably wont :o(
On the way home we took a walk through Hyde Park where, no lie - a bat spat on me! Figure that out. Cheeky winged git! We went out to the bar under our hostel that night, but I was really tired so left Dan with a guy we'd met as I was hoping he could do some male bonding and go out on the pull :o)
DAY 3:
We had another lovely day today so went down to Darling Harbour with one of our room mates called Harley. We went to the wildlife centre which was fun and again I was faced with my old friend arachniphobia, but the cute Koalas and Kanagaroos made up for it. I also got a Lindtt hot chocolate from the cafe down there which is still my top hot choclate in the world. You've got to try it if you get the chance! That night we headed to the hostel bar again to do the pub quiz, we came last, but had a good giggle with our room mates. Also met the guy who wrote the advert tune for the Snickers adverts with Mr T in...er can you say - new claim to fame? We had to go to bed early as we were starting the OZ experience the next day.
Now all in all, Sydney was a tame 3 days, just took in the sights and chilled out. I promise you that my next blog is going to step up a gear. The OZ experience so far = mental, and my next stop in Byron Bay has so far been amazing. Some of it I will not be able to post on this blog. You know what these travellers are like (slightly X rated)! but ask me in private and I will fill you in. Until next time x x x
