Hello
Bit behind in updating this aren't I! About 3 stops ahead of this blog. Well, what can I say. Byron Bay is where this trip has really kicked off for me - it has been amazing, let me explain.......
DAY 1:
Today was the first day that we would be doing on the OZ Experience Bus. I've been looking forward to this as I knew we would be able to meet a lot of people doing the same thing as us and it should be a laugh. The OZ Bus Drivers all have random names and it is their job to give you some guided tour stylee info, keep you entertained and sort you out with accomodation and nights out along the way. Pretty Cool.
6am start in Sydney and we were crusing straight to Byron Bay - skipping a Surf spot we could have stopped at, but we figured we'd do that a bit further up the coast. It was a 13 hour journey, split by 2 drivers called Thunder and Sonic, involving Bacon Butties, Crocodile Pie and Aussie tunes! There were some bad ass road hog trucks on this journey, you know those huge long trailers? I swear on my life I actually saw Optimus Prime cruise past us in the other direction! If there had been a yellow corvette following it I would have made the bus driver stop!
Finally got to Byron, home of beautiful beaches, chilled out shops and bars, a lighthouse, cheeky clubs and most importantly a 23 hour bakery! Yes people - Sausage rolls, bread and cake available 23 hours a day - heaven!
We got ready straght away when we arrived at our hostel and went to the club across the road called cheeky monkeys! Here we made friends with a few of the people on our OZ bus and these were to be mates we'd keep throughout the trip. Niki, Dani, Katie, Kurtis and Ed. Awesome night involving drunken dancing on the famous tables and all of us simultaneously trying to chat up our hot bus driver sonic. Me and Katie may have extended our chatting up beyond the bus driver, it was a good intro to the OZ trip and it definitely started off with a bang!
DAY 2:
Had to have a fairly big lie in to recover from the first messy night! We decided to beach it up today as we actually had some nice weather! I really wish I wasn't so pale and crap and I could just bake myself all day, but I did manage a good 2 and a half hours in the sun which I swear must be some kind of record for me....can someone give me a prize? A new bottle of factor 50+ maybe? I did however pick up a couple of random sunburn strips, got to make sure I keep looking stupid after all.
The rest of the day was equally as chilled, and ended with a game of ring of fire round the pool, but stayed in the hotel area and didn't hit the town. We are on a budget after all :o)
DAY 3:
Got up nice and early for our trip to Nimbin. For those of you who don't know, this is a famous town of hippy settlers who just love to live free man and smoke weed every day, hash it up with a big slice of cake and get stoned on cookies! It's a groovy kind of love! What a mental town. Never seen so many drugs, rainbows or crazy hippy stuff. You'll be glad to hear that I still said no to drugs and children you should too, but those of our mates that did it said they felt nothing anyway. That 90 year old granny who sold those cookies is clearly an OAP con artist!
When we got back from Nimbin, got ready for a night out. I sat round the table with Niki and Dani and a group of lads from Sweden and Holland. This is the night I also met 2 people who we've become mates with...Jane and Logan (cousins). We played a horse racing card game which has got to be one of the best drinking games I've ever seen and girls we are playing it when I get back. I loved this game and was getting drunk pretty quickly. Got through my 5 bottles of cider before starting being fed goon (cheap wine that kills you) by Logan. It got messy!
Went to go out, the middle part is hazy (or just shouldn't be written on this blog :o)) and I remember lying in the hostel grounds with Dan, Danni, Niki and some random guy just looking at the stars in the night sky (with a sausage roll from the 23 hour bakery). Epic night!
DAY 4:
Very tired on this day and just chilled it out again. Went to the beach with Dan, a nice girl called Gemma, Ed and Kurtis. Bought a frisbee and got some air time in on the beach with Ed.
We then made a trip to the lighthouse to watch the sun set, but left it too late and missed the sunset and ended up walking in pitch black in the middle of bush land! Errrrrr s***! Scary isn't the word. I was getting bitten, Dan walked into a spider's web, all we could hear was what sounded like snakes and we couldn't even see where to run. Horror movie script forming in my head and my life flashing before my eyes......but then a TAXI! Oh my life, saved us and took us back to the hostel thank God! Spent the rest of the night chatting to Ed and Niki and Dani before going to bed as it was time to leave for Surfers Paradise the next day.
Brief again, but trust I have many stories to tell you all in person! Better keep this brief so that someone will hopefully employ me again one day when I get home.
I LOVE BYRON BAY!
