Becky Bravo's Adventures
We woke up at 5:30 that morning so we could have a quick snack before we set out for a game drive. I put a bunch of bug spray on, because you know I really do not want to get malaria, but the bug spray I got attracted bees like it was nobody's business. So I had to use some of the guide's spray. But, luckily on the whole safari I did not get bit, burned, scratched, or eaten, so I guess you could call it a success. We rode in vans and one open-air vehicle that we took turns riding in. Our drive was a couple of hours and we saw a bunch of the same animals including more rhinos, some warthogs, and wildebeest, and a herd of buffalo crossed right in front of our vehicles, it was amazing. We got back to the camp and ate breakfast and then we were able to just chill, but I took a nap. Then some people who worked with wild dog preservation came and talked to us and answered some questions and we had lunch and more time to relax. It was so blazing hot that there was not really much we could do, and we weren't allowed to go outside the camp. Later in the afternoon though, we took a small hike to their version of "Pride Rock" (Like on the Lion King) and they talked more about the animals and we had some time to take more pictures. Across the river some buffalo were there drinking water and it was just incredible to be outside and learning about wildlife, and actually having the wildlife there in front us. Then we went on another game drive at 6:30pm and we were all able to be in the open-air vehicles and that was awesome. There were 40 people altogether with my group, so there were 3 different vehicles that took us out. I think our guide was the best. We were able to ask a bunch of questions, and I was asking a lot about snakes in South Africa, and he told us that he owned four snakes. And he didn't keep them in cages or aquariums but they had their own room, and it was like in the wild. There were trees growing in there and everything! I just thought that was so cool. But anyways, back to the drive, we just saw some more of the same stuff, which was awesome. The only animals we did not see were Lions and Leopards, which nobody on any safari really saw. I guess they were all pretty shy this time around. But seeing everything and just being out in nature was so awesome. I will never forget it. Honestly, the way I am explaining it doesn't even do the experience justice, I guess the best I can tell you is that I have never experienced anything like it. After the drive we had a late dinner and sat around the campfire some more. Then we went to bed because we had to start the day at 5:30 am again the next morning. And it was just as hot that night. And my friend Ellie that was sleeping in the top bunk next to mine had to come share my bed with me because her bed was all covered in ants. Like practically blanketed in them, and while I was happy to share, it really didn't make the fact that it was blazing hot any easier. But it all worked out. And 5:30 am came far too early that next day.
