So, today was the Sea Olympics. What is that you may ask? Well on the ship, all the cabins are divided up into different sections called 'seas.' So, like my cabin is on the portside of deck three toward the front, so I was in the Mediterranean Sea. Other sections have different names such as the Baltic Sea, Aegean Sea, etc. Even the faculty and staff had a sea with a total of 10 seas competing. We did events such as tug of war, photo scavenger hunt, slippery twister, ping pong, basketball, etc. And you had to sign up to represent your sea in certain events. I signed up for tug of war and the lip synching contest. Tug of war did not go so well, there were ten on each side, and our side lost in like 2 seconds. But it was all fun. Anyways, the events lasted all day. Tug of war was first, and unfortunately the boat was kind of rocky so right after that I took like a 4 hour nap. But then I felt amazing after. The lip-synching contest was the final and most popular event. It was me and 5 other girls and we had gotten together a couple times and made up a routine to "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" from the movie Moulin Rouge. We felt pretty good about what we had prepared. We even all wore black and matching beads and lipstick. We practiced a bunch and the girls who didn't know the words worked really ******* learning them. The contest was in the student union, and the whole ship was basically there. My sea went third. And people seemed to really enjoy what we did. I even busted out a backhandspring. I pulled it off well even though at the exact moment I flipped over the boat rocked and I ended up landing on my knees. But it didn't look bad and I didn't get hurt or anything. So there are a few pictures of it for you, and for those of you who are really interested, I got almost the whole thing on video, so I can show you when I get home. I thought what we did was awesome, but we only did that one song. Every other sea like mixed songs and theirs were kind of funny like dancing to the "Barbie Girl" song. And they were really long. So I thought we did it wrong or something. But, we ended up getting first place in the contest!! It was amazing because our sea did pretty bad that day, only placing in like 3 events. So everybody in my sea went nuts when they announced who won. And later, one of the RD's who was a judge saw me and was like you girls did awesome! When we went out to decide who won, all the judges said no contest, your sea was the best! Apparently we were the only ones who did it correctly, like actually lip synching and not just dancing around and trying to be funny. Although ours was pretty funny at some parts. Anyways, I just wanted to share that with you all because I thought it was pretty cool to place first in a lip synching contest. It was a lot of fun. The whole Olympics was really competitive because where you placed overall determines when you get off the boat in San Diego. And even though my sea won first in the lip synching contest, we were like 3rd to last altogether. So I wont be getting of the ship very quickly in San Diego. But it was a really fun day.
