After looking forward to fraser island for sooo long it's finally come and gone. And it was as beautiful as I had imagined it! we met up with Kath, Charlotte, and Ed (the guys from surfers paradise) and Rosie, Lauren, Beth and Mel (from uni) when we got there. We had one night in Hervey bay before the trip where Kath, Carl, and Ed amazingly cooked mexican for us when we arrived which was sooo good! and we spent the rest of the night in the hostel pool playing volleyball.
Getting up at 5am to go to fraser island isn't anywhere near as bad as getting up at 5am for postying! It was like a military operation trying to get everyone organised. We were put into groups (we had already got our group sorted) and had to sort all our food out. Kath and I were nominated as shoppers. We were told that we had half an hour in the supermarket which meant literally bombing it round like supermarket sweep! We made an awesome team though and managed to spend less than everyone else. that might have had something to do with the fact that one group bought about 20 onions!! I wouldn't be sitting by them on fraser island! When we reached the four by four hire place we got about a 2 minute lesson of how to drive, they showed us all the accidents people had had (including a girl who had managed to completely flip the car) and then all piled in to head to the ferry!
We had a total of 3 days and 2 nights there! Driving the four by four on the sand island was absolutely immense! The vehicle got taken all over the place! Driving on the paths was even better as they were so ridiculously bumpy and you didnt feel it as much in the front as in the back so I jsut put my foot down :).
We got up to some very cool stuff...got to float down a freshwater creek which actually involved more dragging yourself down than floating as it was pretty narrow..saw one rather large londoner try and make it down but don't think he made it very far. Also got to see a shipwreck which has been left on the island which was pretty cool, visited a lookout called indian head where you can look out across the whole island and its a good spot to check out tiger sharks and manta rays apparently, and went to a lake which was home to lots of really cute turtles. Porbably the highlight of the trip though were the two lakes-lake macenzie (shown on most postcards) and lake wabby. The colour of lake macenzie was absolutely stunning..it was crystal clear. Han, Rosie and I swam across the lake. The sand was so white too. This was also where we saw our first dingo (apparently fraser island has loads of them!). Lake wabby was also stunning. It was surrounded by a massive sand dune was absolutely gorgeous to swim in.
The evenings were spent eating, chatting and chilling on the beach. Our group got on really well and we all just had sooo much fun! wish I could do it all again.
We said our goodbyes to everyone when we got back and headed for the Airlie beach on the night bus where we are doing our s***sundays trip from.
Hope you are all doing well! Lots of love!
