Hello from Phi Phi,
First of all this island is so beautiful! Think we need a bit of a catch up though. I did write one blog yesterday but the screen froze and deleted it all- so annoying!
We spent about 4 days in Bangkok, it was great to see the city but i think we were all pretty relieved to be leaving for Phi Phi. Me and Bex did manage to fit quite a lot in despite being knackered from heat and sweating too much! We went to another temple on day 2 -Wat Pho, this was the reclining Buddha which was equally as amazing. The Buddha figure is absolutly huge and it has the same very calming atmosphere as Grand Palace did. After this we had decided we were going to look for China town so walked from the temple along the road. We went through small markets and stalls and strange smells- it was really interesting but we were really hot and only had a vague idea of where we were heading! We did actually give up on this particular misson and headed home as we could have been walking for hours! It later turned out we could have walked to China town from our hostel (we will blame info given to us fro this error!)
The next day we decided to head for the shopping malls which people had told us were really good in Bangkok. We travelled by Sky train which i loved- it was easy to use and air-conditioned and we were above the city and out of the traffic. It was good to see the views of the city from above too. We were surprised by the look of the area the mall was in as it looked more upmarket than the area we were staying in. The mall itself was huge- so many stalls and shops. I bought a dress and Becky bought a camera case- we didn't really get involved in the bartering though. Had a thai all-you-can-eat experience and Bex got her hair cut for 200 Baht!
Our last day we decided to visit Kao San Road and see the backpacking area. Got the boat taxi again. It was a nice area- you could tell it was where the backpackers all go. There were tonnes of stalls and cafes. I was pretty glad that we stayed in the new road hostel though.
Our evenings were spent in the hostel bar pretty much. We discovered a new liking for a game called Mikado (pick up sticks!) and played some pool.
When Keleigh (Becky's sister) arrived on Sunday night we did venture out for some food in honour of her birthday and had a few celebratory beers and pool in hostel bar.
On Monday morning we were up bright and early to fly to Krabi. Flight was really quick but it was raining when we landed. Got a taxi to pier but the driver did stop short of the pier and try to get us to get a boat with some company which i guess were paying him . We got him to actually take us to the pier, Keleigh was great here- told him we had paid to go to pier and thats where we wanted to go- good example for me and Bex!
After and hour and a half of fairly choppy water and a bit of a quesy tummy we arrived at beautiful Phi Phi.
It was however absolutly peeing it down and it was pretty funny stumbling off the boat in the pouring rain, in flip flops with heavy backpacks.... More about Phi Phi to follow
Tarrar for now, lots of love to everyone
Kate and Becky
