Hello from Singapore.
Kate and I really like the atmosphere here. It's a shame we didn't spend 3 nights here instead of 2. Everything is so much cleaner and more organised (in the nicer areas of course). We are staying on the edge of Little India and it's not too bad.
We have been carrying on with our free sight-seeing and it's going well. My main priority here was to get some more suitable clothes and I haven't been disappointed. We came in the great Singapore sale. Woohoo.
The flight to Singapore from KL was really short, just how we like it. We asked the tourist office what the cheapest way to get to our hostel was and she told us to take a taxi, hmmmm. We were a little dubious so we looked around a bit and found a shuttle bus which took us right to our hostel for only $9. The ride was nice as we dropped people off on the way and got to see some of the nicer parts of the city. We did stop at places such as the Four Seasons and other posh hotels. Ahh, the dreams.
We stayed in an 8 bed dorm, which was our first dorming since we left to travel. At first I wasn't very happy about it, willing to pay an arm and a leg for a little bit of privacy but it wasn't so bad in the end. We chillaxed for a few hours then went on a hunt for food. The last thing I wanted was Asian food and we managed to stumble across an Italian restaurant, however it was a little out of our price range. We weren't that disappointed as we new what to expect from Singapore, being one of the most expensive south east asian countries.
We walked through little India, which was packed. Instead of in Thailand or Malaysia, there seemed to be more buyers than sellors and they aren't so persistent to get you to look at thier stalls. Kate and I have had dodgy stomachs since we left so we voted against having Indian, there wasn't much choice left except for Singaporean food.
We ate at simple and standard restaurant across from our hostel. We looked at the menu and we didn't feel that hopeful. I wanted chips!!! However the people were really nice and suggested things for us to try. They didn't go overboard either which was nice (we have had stinky Durian fruit and fish balls shoved down our throats before). She asked if we wanted fried rice and thier speciality, prawn, pork and chicken balls (all in one). The owner also came and suggested what sauces we should dip our balls into. Kate loved it but I can't help but be put off by the smell. If I can get past that, the food is quite pleasant.
On day two, I asked the receptionist where we could go for cheap but good quality clothes and she headed us in the right direction. We went to an indoor market which was packed with stalls. I wanted everything, the clothes were really nice and cheap. I did however keep my spending under control and only brought the essentials :-) and Kate too.
We went to the food court in the pricer Mall next door to the market. Our intention was to 'shop' around a bit but our mistake was physically going over to the menu outside the restaurant. The Lady went through the menu and tried to sell the menu to us like a real estate agent tries to sell a house. We gave in and ate there. Yuck. They fried the burger bun!!!!!
Last night we were tired after shopping so went on the net and played THREE games of Kap Um Clag.
Today we are going to go and find a post office as we have a few things to send home.
The next time you hear from us we shall be in OZ - very very excited. Accommodation all booked, but we have to wait in Papa New Guinea for NINE hours. ZZZZZZZ.
Hope all is well.
Love the Bexster and Moot
