Hello from Kuala Lumpur.
So after our very adventurous 3 and a bit weeks in Thailand we decided to tone down the spending and see if we can resist tours. We miss Thailand loads, which is somewhat unexpected.
We spent one night in Krabi so we could get a flight to KL the next day. An uneventful flight.....this is a good thing!! Once we got to the KL airport, instead of being bombarded with Thai's asking if we would like a taxi or tuk-tuk, we were surrounded by Malaysians trying to get us to take their coaches to China Town. Funny thing, there were a number of coaches leaving within the next five minutes however, Kate and I decided to wait half an hour for one. Can anyone tell us why? I have no idea.
As soon as we got off the bus in China Town we stumbled upon two helpful people. Kate and I were looking at a map to see where our hostel was and a man, not malaysian, offered help - free of charge and with no strings. Second, Kate and I were trying to cross a very busy street and a malaysian man helped us to cross. Again no strings, just out of the goodness of his heart.
The hostel was basic but had everything we needed. Staff very friendly, rooms clean and the third book in the Twilight series for me Yippee!!!!
The reason why I have blabbed about friendly people and buses alot is because, rather ashamedly, we didn't do much in KL. We expected this. Trying to spend little I think demotivated us but we did go for a little walkies on our last full day. We went to the KL tower but didn't go to the top, we had to pay to do that. Then we went to see if we could find a cheap shopping mall. There were lots of shopping malls, but with Jimmy Choo and Fendi Handbag type shops. Ha. It was a really nice area and we were contented to walk around.
We did have some dunking donuts. I couldn't resist because I always see them in Tesco or is it Asda? and the price is extortionate, something like 1.60 a donut. I think we paid about 50p. We were in heaven and Kate took the not licking her lips quite seriously.
Other than our day of looking at Fendi Handbags we read ALOT! I'm making Kate read the books I've read. I think my seriousness about a book is contagious, we have taken to discussing the books in depth to eachother. It's quite entertaining. Kate and I are very deep don't you know.
Anywho, Singapore up next.
Love Becky and Kate
