Hello from Potosi.....
We arrived here from Uyuni after a nightmare bus ride...we had a private bus for just our group so I stupidly thought it would be a easy ride! The roads were mostly on a cliff edge and the driver seemed to like the thrill of getting as close as he could to the edge- I tried not to look :/ Not only that but I had to pee behind a wall and the entire journey was so bumpy it felt like you were in a hyper active massage chair! There was some incredible scenery as well and we made it to Potosi in one piece. The city itself was pretty poor and run down..it was surprising to know it had once been the richest city in Latin America. I didn't feel hugely safe in Potosi and we mostly walked around in groups, even during the day. The hotel was nice though and Becky, Becca and I even got to chill out in bed and watch a film that night.
We had an interesting meal in the evening. The restaurant was pretty nice and the food was really cheap. During the meal some entertainers came to do an act by our table. He had glass orbs and there was a lady playing flute. Pretty surreal and we followed Heidi (the tour leader's) example and avoiding looking at them. It was pretty awkward and when they had finished they asked us for money...we all declined and he had a go at us saying "you all make me a little sick" ha! I don't mind giving money if something was good but they were just plain wierd and pretty rude!
The next day we saw a bit more of Potosi and visited the markets. There was a marching band making it's way through the streets and we later found out it was an anniversary of the town. The streets were pretty crowded but it was a nice atmosphere. That afternoon we got taxis to Sucre. This was unexpected and a nice way to travel. One nice part about being on a tour was that all our travels and hotels were sorted for us- luxury! Our driver also had a mixture of 80's and disco music in the cra which was pretty entertaining!
Next stop Sucre.....
Peace out xxxxxx
