Set off on our first Oz bus with our driver, Thunder at 7am from Cairns. Our first stop was Babinda boulders which was very impressive to see but at 8am is was just a little too early to fully appreciate it! Our next stop was Innisfail where we got a McDonalds brekkie yum yum and then it was on to the Johnstone River Crocodile park. It was only $14 to get in and the first thing we got to do was kangaroo feeding. Even though we've done it before this time their was tiny joeys and the were so sweet! Although a slightly oler joey took a disliking to Simon! We then got to go on a guided tour around the farm where we got to see emus, cassowaries, dingoes and also got to hold a baby croc! Luckily it had lots of tape round its mouth! After we watched the croc feeding, which was much better than at the zoo in Cairns, it was time to get back on the bus and head to Mission Beach.
We checking into Absolute Backpackers which was really nice and clean, we even got a free t-shirt -never to be worn in public of course but perfect for pjs! Ater a yummy pasta (of course!) dinner we headed down to the beach for a bonfire that the hostel had organised. We'd met a really nice group on our bus so headed down with them. The bonfire was mean tto be this big event but it turned out to be pretty lame, but there was loads of people down there and it was good to be with a big group. One of the girls, Naomi ended up getting really drunk and me and another girl, Carol had to take her home, but it was still a really good night.
On our second day we headed over to Dunk Island with a slightly hungover Naomi. Its only 10mins from Mission on a water taxi, and we then walked to Muggy Muggy beach to do some snorkelling. The visabiltiy in the water was reallt bad and we didnt see much. We spent our evening with three of the people from our room, Jo, Dan and Lauren who were really nice, definately our kind of people and we had a really good night, much better than the bonfire of the previous night!
Our third day we spent lazing around the pool with Jo and Lauren as it was soo hot it was impossible to get the energy to do anything. We ended up making plans for the 5 of us to travel together down to Airlie beach and do our Whitsundays trip as a group which should be wicked. I'm absolutely loving having 2 girls to chat with and Simon is definately enjoying having another bloke to muck around with and have manly talk about cars and bikes and football! I never was good at holding those kind of conversations!
We spent the last day in Mission beach just packing and chilling out watching films, the weather was nice and the pool was packed but you cant swim in the sea here so there wasn't really much to do. Plus our bags were comlpletely emptied across the entire room and it took a while to squeeze it pack in. We also did a big food shop in preparation for Magnetic Island as there are no big shops there for food - very organised!
So we had a nice time here, made some brilliant friends but there really wasn't much to do, just a very chilled out few days!
