We arrived at rainbow beach, made some dinner and had an early night, ready for our horribly early wake up the next day. We got up and after breakfast had to watch some videos about driving on sand, camping and general safety on Fraser island. Most people had done it yesterday but we arrived to late, so had to do it this morning. There was only one other person doing it with us, who turned out to be Hannah's boyfriend. After the videos everyone got into their groups, we were in the lead car with the guide, Wayne, and Lucy. We had to all check we had the right food and then pack it into the cars. We set off and got the ferry across to Fraser island. As there was a swell and the waves were coming in higher than usual- there wasnt very much beach to drive on, we had to change the plan round and headed to lake Waby. Wayne dropped us off, he went back to start setting up the campsite, and we all went on a 40min bush walk to the lake. When you got out of the Foresty bit you were basically greeted by a massive sand dune, it looked amazing. The lake was at the bottom of a sand dune so we did a bit of sunbathing and went for a paddle- it was soooo cold!! We then walked back to meet Wayne and headed back to the campsite. We set up our tents and then made some lunch. Because of the waves we were back much earlier than normal so just chilled at the campsite until dinner. Group 1 (us) and 2 made dinner. We had chicken stir fry which was actually really yummy for camping cooking :) but we did have to add a glass of goon to the stir fry after a piece of chicken ended up in a glass of goon. I think it actually added to the flavour ;) we washed up and then played some drinking games. Wayne had brought us some marshmallows, so we roasted them on the fire and just chatted until we went to bed. We were actually surprisingly warmer than we expected in the tent! We had a early start an made scrambled egg and toast for breakfast. Then we went towards champagne pools. On the way we stopped at a shipwreck which I think had been there for 70yrs (ish). We also saw a dead whale on the way :( apparently it had washed up a few days ago, an aboriginal women spoke to it and apparently it didn't want to go back in the water because of the sharks. We then went to champagne pools, which was different to what we expected. It's called champagne pools because when the water hits the rocks, the foam looks like when you open a bottle of champagne. Then we drove to Indian heads and walked up to the top where you had some amazing views! We got another group to take a group photo and then headed back down and went to Eli creek. Eli creek was really nice. Its shallow and apparently the current carries you down it so you can just float down. We had some lunch and then just walked through the creek. We had to head back to camp again, because the beach was disappearing. We chilled out and the other two groups cooked dinner- Wayne did steak and they made a very yummy potato salad and vegetables. Wayne made some cry good steak! Much nicer than the one I had at the rodeo! We had some drinks around the fire and Wayne had bought us more marshmallows, cookies and chocolate sauce! He was so sweet! He didn't have to do any of that, but he wanted to make our trip as good as he could! We had another early morning the next day, had tea and coffee, packed up the campsite and drive to lake Mackenzie. We had breakfast there and then chilled on the beach and in the river for a few hours. Again it was sand that could exfoliate, we tried it out and it actually worked! We were pretty impressed!! We then had to head back. We stopped at the shop and Wayne bought chips so we could make chip buttys! He was literally the kindest person! Then we got the ferry back to the mainland and went back to the hostel. We went on a walk in the afternoon to some sand dunes. We got to try out throwing a boomerang (didn't go too well) and sand boarding down a MASSIVE sand dune which was a lot of fun!! The next morning we got the bus to Noosa, which wasn't too far away.
