Time for the more intellectual one to take-over.
After a quick browse around Airlie beach (taking us 15 minutes) we booked our diving course, we managed to get a really good deal which included our four open water dives, the boat trip, breakfast, BBQ buffet lunch, and afternoon tea - very good. Our days began bright and early at 7.30am as the boat took three hours to get to the reef. Once we had geared up, we took our first dive, unfortunately the visibility wasn't at its best due to the recent cyclone. According to our instructor visibilty can range up to 40m and we were diving in 7-8m visibility so not the best. We were soon in the swing of things managing to see 3 metre fish, a sea turtle named chunky (his name was due to the tiger shark that fancied a piece of his ass!) and a variety of coral fish including a Nemo aka clown fish. Just before our second dive the instructor informed us of a tiger shark that roamed the water further down the reef but he was put off by the boats so luckily he didn't sneak up on us. I fear if he had Gav would have needed to buy his wet suit, as the company would not have liked the extra package in it.
All in all, the diving was awesome - very addictive and now we can dive up to 18 metres, anywhere in the world.
Somethings still remain, I get sea sick - not as bad due to popping various pills but the b****** still sneaks up on me. Gav is some sort of book worm and has read nine books, freak. I have read whoopsiedo, one.
After our two days diving Gav seems to have a mild sinus problem, which is common and we were both cream bloody crackered. We spent the day lying by a man made lagoon as you can't swim in alot of the North Queensland sea due to 'stingers'; teeny tiny jellyfish that if untreated can KILL you!!!
We decided to book an overnight greyhound bus up to Cairns, once again not the greatest as I felt like total s***e the next morning and was doing alot of 'the face'. Luckily we have no more poopy greyhound buses.
As we have travelled further north the weather has become markedly more humid, it can savagely rain for a few minutes and follow bright sunshine with temperatures around 30-35 degrees. The last few days it has rain, rain, rained! Pants.
With our time running out we have decided on another camper, this time an upgrade. Gav took a little persuading but I love the old camping rather than hostels, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss! Excited. We collect the beaut tomorrow and then head for the Atherton tablelands, Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Cape is known to have one of the best beaches in Oz, thats if it's not pissing it down! Time to tanorex.
Love to all. Miss you Poms.
Love Lauzingo & Gav-a-la xxxxxx
