Our guide, Stefan, picked us up at 8:00 am and away we went to visit Peles Castle. This was one of the very last castles constructed in Europe and was built with electricity and indoor plumbing. It was also lavishly decorated with all kinds of exquisite furnishings and materials. We were supposed to be able to tour on our own, but got lumped in with two other tour groups. We wandered around Old Town in the morning and then caught the local Hop on Hop Off Bus for a tour of the city. Lots of beautiful large buildings built in the 19th century, with a lot of French and Greek influence. Our food tour guide had pointed out that the Romanian people wanted their own style, and once you know what to look for, it's pretty evident in most of the buildings.
