We drove over to another National Trust site today called Glendurgan Garden. I wasn't really all that keen on going, mostly because I was tired, but am so glad I did! It was rainy, windy and chilly when we got up, but we didn't let that stop us from going on a nature walk at a place called Lizard's Point. It's the southernmost part of Cornwall, high up above the water. They only give the guided walk every Wednesday, so this was our only chance to do it. We decided to visit an old mine today...mainly because this area was known for their copper and tin mining once upon a time, and it was something different to do. We visited the East Pool Mine, which was closed down in 1945 after quite a few years in the business. We left the cottage bright and early this morning in order to arrive at The Eden Project as they opened. Again, not very far in miles, but the roads are so narrow and you are constantly going through small villages, it takes 90 minutes to go 38 miles! Oh--one interesting fact is the Brits use mph instead of kilometers, so that's been helpful! We managed to find the place, parked and found the ticket office. Our first morning in Coverack was spent driving to a famous sight called St. Michael's Mount. As we approached it, I told Rich it reminded me so much of Mont St. Michael in France. This one is still surrounded by water when the tide is in, and you have to take a ferry to get there. However, the tide was out when we arrived, so we were able to walk to it. As it turns out, it was built by the same monks who built the one in France! And that explains why the names ...
