Retired & Traveling
We had one of those days that truly tested the strength of our relationship. We thought we had directions to the train station from our Farmhouse, and we did--only we couldn't find it and there a zillion one way streets in the town. Even if you can SEE where you need to go, you can't get there because of the one way signs. The navigation system was WORTHLESS, and I don't mean me. LOL What was supposed to take us 10 minutes ended up taking an hour. We finally found the station, parked, bought our tickets, and waited for the train. After two stops, Rich figures out that WE ARE ON THE WRONG TRAIN!!! Argghhh!!! A really nice young Italian girl heard us talking about what to do and told us to get off at the next stop and catch the next train back. We did as she suggested and ended up being able to catch the next train with one minute to spare. :)) We found the Citysightseeing office and bought our tickets for the Hop on Hop Off Bus tour. We rode all over the city, got off for a photo opp, then back on to another line. This line took almost 2 hours to go around, as it went way up into the hills surrounding Florence. We managed to find our way back to the train station, bought tickets (believe me when I say this is easier said than done), and got on the right train this time. It was around 3:00 at this point, and we had not eaten lunch, so we decide to hit a grocery store for some essentials like toilet paper, and noodles since our hostess had given us some homemade pasta sauce. We plugged in the nearest grocery store, drove to it, parked and discovered they are closed for siesta. WTF??? Are you kidding me? Found another one, it was in a pedestrian only area, no parking. We were so frustrated by now, it's amazing we are still speaking. I think I just started laughing hysterically at this point, it was really like something out of a twilight zone episode. We plugged into the GPS the name of a big store we had been to yesterday that has plenty of parking and we knew was open and headed for it. By now, we'd been driving for about 45 minutes. Nevertheless, we found it, got our stuff and headed for home. Our hostess insisted on giving us more fresh veggies from her garden--Ashley, you would die for the edamame...so delicious! After two glasses of yummy Pinot Grigio and a full belly of spaghetti, I'm a happy camper again. Food tour tomorrow!! :))
