We got onto a New York turnpike (I-90) and headed toward Massachusetts. Their toll roads are, apparently, quite expensive, because we travelled about 220 miles to the NY/Mass state line and paid $42.85 for the privilege. That’s about 19 cents a mile! I know I have a large vehicle—and I’m towing—but compare that to the Mass Pike: we went about 75 miles for $1.10. That’s about 1 1/2 cents per mile. I think I’ll stay out of New York.
We stopped near Sturbridge, MA, at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park. How exciting! We camped in the mud. Yup, all the roads and sites are dirt, and it had been raining (and continued while we were there overnight). There were some really nice mud puddles suitable for puddle-jumping. Of course, we don’t have the proper clothing for heavy rain and mud. That’s planning ahead.
Sturbridge also has a working town in the style of the 17th century. We don’t have time now to see it—we would need at least a whole day—but we hope to come back this way after Maine and see the town.
