Day 13 Route 66 at last!
Headed up to Chicago to start with breakfast at Lou Mitchell's. It was fantastic. Plenty crowded for 7:30 in the morning. Food was excellent. Lots of great ambience. A definite winner and so much fun to start the trip down 66. Got the t-shirts!
Back down to Orland Hills to pick up the dog. She got a buzz cut for the hot southwest. It could be that they cut a wee bit too much off. She was shivering at the campsite tonight, and it wasn’t that cold. Oops. At least there’s more room in the RV now.
Got some more maps and info on Route 66 from the Joliet Museum. (BTW, we still have 6 cookies, left. Shannon and Rietta, think you could deliver to St. Louis? We should be there in, say, another week – or three. After all, it’s all of maybe 200 miles from here.) So now we have about 4 books, several maps, and a bunch of brochures on Route 66. So you’d think it would be easy to find our way. Hmmmm…
I’ve got them all spread out on my lap trying to figure out where the heck Route 66 went. So we just wander down the roads hoping we’ll eventually hit 66, or maybe we’re on 66, who knows? Tried to find one place and each book had a different address for it. Only had to go around the block a couple of times before we found it. Ah, the adventure of it all…
First big find: the Gemini Giant in Willimington, Ill. There are two others to find as well. Between all the maps, books, Garmon, etc. I’m sooo confused!
Camped in the middle of nowhere in a field of corn and soybeans (our new fuel). Woke up to cows grazing in the field next to us. Great, beautiful, funky place. Perfect.

No 1: Started Robin Williams today. Hedberg must have taken swearing lessons from him. But again, way funny.
No 2: My turn at Lord of the Fire Hydrant…tee hee!
