Today was all about the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. We were determined to get a close up look at Uluru so decided to walk the full base track around the rock. The full 10.6kms. Left Erldunda this morning for the short drive to Uluru (staying at Yulara). Thought that we had laid eyes on the rock for the first time, however it was Mount Conner, sometimes known as "fool-uru". Took a little longer setting up camp as we plan to stay 4-5 days to make the most of the area. Dropped in to the Pioneer Outback Hotel and paid $71 for a six pack and a bottle of wine. Disappointing start to the day. Discovered a handbag and contents scattered behind our car. Turns out the locals had been through the caravan park overnight. They entered an unlocked van whilst the occupants were still asleep and stole the handbag, making off with $1000 cash and a mobile phone. What an amazing place Coober Pedy is. Aptly named by the Aborigines (Kupa Piti) which meant white men in a hole. A day of self touring for the Stevo's today. The information centre was a great help to guide us through the numerous options.
