Was it worth getting up at 3:30 am (after 2 alarms that i had set incorrectly didn't wake me - bit of luck my body clock knew what was up!)? Definitely!
Location, location, location - if that what 'it's' all about then you can't go far wrong with this place - so near to both France and Switzerland but with a full German character of it's own - a fantastic place.
From the airport to the eespark (lake) to feed the swans and ducks in the sunshine and have some traditional lunch like Wurstsalad and a beer.
Spent the day wandering the city under the guidance of our excellent hostess, Isabel. Saw the cathedral (300 yrs to complete) which is amazingly intricate inside and out. Took in the market, had an ice cream by a fountain, then went up a small hill to a beer garden overlooking Freiburg. Lots of merry Germans, also saw traditional costumes (pom pom hats, black for married women, red for singletons).
Back to the apartment passing some lovely old university buildings and the abandoned library for a much needed snooze.
Out in the evening for some delicious Turkish food, rounded off with some beers and schnapps with some of Isa's friends -first in a cozy pub then in a posy club. Time flew cos it was fun, made it home by 130- ish.
