Copacabana has the highest lake in the world 3,856 meters above sea level.
When we first arrived here we had no plans what so ever, we decided to visit a island on the lake and stay the night there. We only had 8 pounds. we asked where the nearest cash machine was and got told there wasnt one! we both looked at each other in shock we found the only bank in the town and got money out, then we relised all 2 out of 3 bank cards have been blocked ! GREAT (lucky is wasnt a Sunday)
Now with money in our pockets we headed to the beach front and got a local ferry to the Isla de Sol - sun and moon island - for 10 Bolviarnos - 1 pound. After a 2 hour boat journey we finally arive at the island. greeted by kids trying to sell there spare rooms for the night and donkeys to carrry up luggage.
We decided to stay at a hostel the boat owner recomended, this was a 300 meter walk / Vertical Climb up hill on a dusty rocky path which should have taken 10 mins. For us puffing and panting and having to take a break every couple of steps it took us 30/40 mins. Once we reached the peak it was like climbing a mountain we then turned around and relised it was worth every second of pain.
The view was out of the world. Our room looked right out onto this view and we didnt even have to get out of bed to watch the sunrise . we were shocked to find out the room was only 2.50 per night .BARGIN
we went out for dinner that night with the people we met that day and found a restrant at the top of the hill which was really small and cosey. we had a nice meal and then all had to walk back to the hostel in the dark which was fun due to the terrain.
We got up in the morning to watch the sun rise over the mountains, was amazing! Both felt a bit worse for wear due to the height we were at and decided to head back to Copacabana.
Next stop Puno or as Barry keeps calling it Porno !
