We're now on the road with our camper van for a few weeks. We hadn't really planned on getting a camper but decided we wanted to see a bit more of the area around Sydney and thought this would be the best option. Have had a great time with it so far. We were given an upgrade when we went to pick it up so the van we got is really nice and slightly bigger than what we were expecting to get. It's really well kitted-out with everything you would need for a couple of weeks on the road.
Our first stop was Katoomba in the Blue Mountain National Park, which is about 120km west of Sydney. The roads up into the mountains were really good and driving on the same side of the road as back home is a bonus! Katoomba is an old mining town and is one of the highest in the Blue Mountains at just over 1,000m above sea level, so the views are absolutely stunning as you'll see from some of the pictures. The camp site is really nice and is about a 5 minute walk from the Three Sisters which is one of main landmarks in the area. There are some amazing walks around the cliftops and also down into the Jamison Valley. We've had a trip on the Scenic Skyway which is a cable car about 300m above the valley and the Scenic Railway which takes you down into the valley and is apparently the steepest funicular railway in the world!
Today we also had a trip into Wentworth to visit the Wentworth Falls which is also stunning. We were hoping to get to the bottom of the falls but this turned out to be a 4 hour walk so we gave that a miss but managed to get to the top of the falls. We'll be hitting the road again tomorrow and heading back out to the coast to Newcastle for a day or two.
