We were up and away early on day five of the tour, headed straight for Blarney Castle in an effort to beat a much larger tourist group who were headed there from a cruise ship. The ploy seemed to work as we visited the castle with only dribs and drabs of other tourists in sight, and puckered up to kiss the Blarney Stone and apparently inherit 'the gift of the gab'.Looking at the stone, it's quite off colour and dirty looking compared to the surrounding, less popular stones in the castle, making you feel like you had a higher chance of catching some kind of STD than this so called gift of the gab.Regardless, we took the risk and hope to one day soon prove it was worthwhile.
We stopped in another seafood haven, Kinsale, for a look around and took the time to send some love back to the fam from the post office. It was onto our final night stop of Cork by mid afternoon where we took a quick look around the city centre and grabbed some take away cans from the `off licence` in preparation for a big finale with the tour group.
The evening got underway with some drinking games at the hostel which got everyone well in the mood for visiting two local haunts. While many a good effort was put forth it would be safe to say the Thomas again did the Dutch proud. While his English was a little lacking at times, his catch phrase of `Yippee Kiiii-ay!` has been stuck in our minds ever since. One of the scarier moments of the trip occurred on the way home as we got caught in the crossfire of some ungrateful homeless chaps and a fleeing 16 year old boy who had given them some change. Safe to say he didn`t pick the most willing bodyguards by trying to hide behind us, all the while homeless man number one screams in a husky Irish accent `I`ll get your friends too!`. Despite this, it all fizzled very quickly and our last night of tour was probably one of the best of the trip thus far.
