Yesterday we went down to the gym and did a little workout so we didn't feel guilty when we went back to Russ and Daughters again! More yummy salmon and bagels and good coffee down the road. After brunch we took the subway to the manhattan side of the Brooklyn bridge and walked across to Brooklyn. We stopped for pizza at the famous Grimaldis pizza and then wandered the streets of Brooklyn and Williamsburg which were fairly deserted probably because it was a Monday afternoon and winter so lots of places are undergoing renovations. We trekked back to manhattan and made our way back to the hotel where we relaxed a bit then got ready to go out. We went round the corner to an Irish pub for a couple of drinks then over to Chelsea to a little French restaurant called Recette which was beautiful. We tried bone marrow toast, salt cod, scallops, duck breast and other delicious things all washed down with a bottle of burgundy. It was quite a fancy restaurant but in the background we could hear nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden and sublime playing which was great. After dinner we had a couple of after dinner drinks back at the pub in front of the 'open fire' which was gas fired like all the fireplaces over here. Today we got up and cruised around town shopping for a few last minute things, then headed back to the Chelsea market for an amazing lobster lunch. You can buy any fresh fish straight from the market and eat it on the spot, which we did with a freshly cooked lobster and half a dozen oysters, then followed that with some artisan gelato wowee! After lunch we walked to the upper west side and through central park, as it was another beautiful sunny day (but freezing cold). We wandered down 5th avenue and past all the diamond jewellery stores, one place took us to get my rings polished in this tiny room on the 6th floor of some apartment building where all the people in the trade seemed to frequent which was a cool experience. We dropped off our shopping then walked over to the shake shack for dinner where we tried burgers and a hit dog, the dog was fairly good, but the burgers were awesome mmm mmm! Great last meal in NYC, and now it's time to get back onto the veggies and fruit and hopefully some sunny warm weather in Hawaii!
