Sydney is my favourite city so far! Even the weather is nice for a change. It is probably the same temperature as back home, around 20 degrees. And it is a big difference compared to where we were. It was never below 30 degrees for 6 weeks so we had to buy some warm clothing here.
It is autumn which means that the trees are turning brown and people surf and swim with full bodysuits. Nevertheless everyone is still wearing shorts and tank tops. That has been to cold for us, today we walked around in summer clothes and were freezing our asses of. At least that was how it felt. We have been spoiled in Asia.
We are staying at bondi beach and have a room that overlooks the Sea and a partial view of the sand. Every morning we wake up by a bright shining sun and for the first time since our trip we eat in and have breakfast in the kitchen. The rest of the time we still eat out but limited it to fast food, burger shaks aaand sushibars.
One of the reasons I love Sydney is the sushi, I eat sushi all day every day. A big box of 10 pieces is just 4 dollars and hand rolls just above 1. They are with fresh salmon and tuna and it's just marvellous. Lizet found the best veggie burger in the world and every time we pass the restaurant she starts drooling. Besides the sushi and the veggie burger all the food stores, restaurants, pubs and bars look amazing and cosy. They have happy hours all the time and the food smells great. One other big thing that makes us happy is that everyone understands us. Sydney looks a tiny bit like England and Ireland with permanent sunshine and happy laid back people. There are a lot of churches and parks that are well maintained. Most of the musea are for free so we paid them a visit. And of course we went to the opera house, darling Harbour and Surry hills. The water was a bit too cold so we did not take a dive in the beautiful blue ocean.
Australia is big and we did not think anything through before we came. We noticed once we started talking with people who had been or live in Australia and told us that driving from Sydney to Melbourne must be the dullest thing you could possibly do. It is like driving from Zeeland to the south part of Belgium sticking to the coastline. You will see a lot of sea but nothing special. Luckily for us there was a very helpfull man called Jay working at our hostel. Initially we wanted to go up to cairns to visit the great barrier Reef and fly to Melbourne but this would include more sitting in the car than actual snorkeling and swimming. We told Jay of our plans in Fiji, that we are going to swim there for 2 weeks and he advised us to skip cairns and the eastern Shore altogether. Instead go to Alice Springs and see the Rock.
What rock? Ayers rock.
