Charters Towers to Emerald section we overnighted at a lovely spot called Theresa Creek dam. It was right on the edge of the water around the corner from the dam wall. It was a very peacefull and relaxing place to be and will definitely go back again sometime. Some nice walks are available around the edge of the dam and of course bird life abounds.
After our stop there it was off to Emerald for four nights stay which gave us plenty of time to see the district which included the gemfields of Sapphire, Rubyvale and Anake.
At Rubyvale we went on an underground mine tour which was very interesting due to the knowledge of the guide who conducted it. She has been living and working in the gemfields for the past 30 odd years.
Plenty of gem stones were on offer for sale but not within our budget.
Friday being our wedding anniversary we headed out to an Italian resturant in town and had a great meal.
Saturday and Sunday were taken up with more sighting and general touring around.
A vist to Fairbairn Dam just outside Emerald where we could see all the improvments being carried out there, raising the wall and the picnic areas being added to and changed was interesting. The dam holds 3 time the amount of water that Sydney Harbour holds.
This afternoon (Sunday) it's time to fuelup, packup and get ready to move on tomorrow heading for Carnarvon Gorge for four days. then off to Surat, Look out Covenys here we come. We'lll see you on the 1st.
