As you can see, now back in Queensland.
We've covered many kilometers since the last blog and the WiFi has been very poor at best.
Our location is now Charters Towers and we've spent 5 days having a good look around this very old town which in the main has not been spoilt by new modern shopping malls and the like. It's very pleasing to wander around looking at the old buildings and taking in the history.
There is a very interesting and well kept Ambulance museum here, and of course I had to have a look and a chat (which took up quite some time in the end) but it is well set out and even had some items from my era.
One of the tours in Charters Towers is the Texan Longhorn Cattle ranch.
This comprises of a wagon ride around a cattle proprty which breeds the longhhorn cattle with morning tea and an information session all about the property and how it came into being. A tour not to be missed.
Our trip down and across from Darwin was uneventfull but once again the scenery was always changing.
We took advantage of a free camp at King river rest area for one night and our next stop at Banka Banka station where a good night was enjoyed by all there with a fire and music from an entertainer from South Australia who was touring around.
Next day we moved on to Three Ways and Tenant Creek, turning left and headed east toward Queensland. A long stretch of highway with not much in between there and the Qld boarder.
Over the boarder into Qld and our first stop for the night was at Camooweal in the very well maintained caravan park behind the post office hotel.
After there our next free camp was at Julia Creek which was on the creek side just out of town. A very popular spot but plenty of room for everyone. All gathered for happy hour and watched the sunset which was enjoyed buy everyone there.
Our next stop was Hughenden in the council Caravan park, once again well maintained and a credit to the council.
Which then brought us to Charters Towers.
Tomorrow, Wednesday we head south moving ever so slowly closer to home.
