The opening picture is part of the view from our campsite where we stayed at Sandstone Park which is 2.5 klms from the enterance to the Carnarvon National park where all the walks start from.
Sandstone park is a new park on a ridge with 360 degree views, truly amazing. Each campsite has views and their own campfire pit. We stayed at Cararvon for 4 days and made good use of the fire pits. Nights were cold but days were just perfect for walking.
We went for a number of walks such as the Nature walk, Art Gallery, Balloon caves, Mickey Creek, Rock pools and the Moss Garden. All very interesting and also a lot of heritage and culture dating back thousands of years. Apparently 65,000 people visit Carvarvon Gorge each year.
Approximately 12 to 14 kilometers were covered which included 6 creek crossings and plenty of hills, narrow tracks and stairs.
On the way into Carnarvon there is a memorial to some aircrew and passengers who were on a flight in a military Dakota aircraft which crashed in the area in 1943. There were no survivors.
After 4 days it was onto Surat via Roma to catchup with Matthew, Megan and the family and check out all the things they have been doing to their property since we were there last.
