Although the day started overcast and cool the sun did come out by 11am.
Dee, Pat and I went to the markets in Baveno while the men sat by the water and had drink waiting for us. There were lots of stalls particularly women's clothes and handbags. We did buy a few things but we will be going back to Stresa for any extra shopping.
We got home about 1pm and Trevor and Paul decided to do the cable car from Stresa to Mottarone. John didn't want to go so he stayed with Dee and Pat at the camper. I decided to face my fears and take the cable car. The trip was in three parts, two in cable cars and one on a chair lift. There were only about 10 of us on the way up so Trevor and Paul were able to get many photos of the scenery. I held on and just looked out at the beautiful view. The only time it was a bit scary was when the cable car went over the pylon and gave a sudden drop. We then took the chair lift to the summit which is 1500 metres sea level and 1300 metres above Lake Maggiore. The whole trip took 20mins. We got a 360° view of everything. WOW
At the top there is Alpyland which is a bob sled ride on rails. It is 1.2kms long and sits on the side of the mountain. We all went on it. I went a bit slow as some of the corners are like hairpins and you feel as if you are going to fall off. But it was worth it. I can say that I tried things I thought I wouldn't ever do.
On our return trip to the bottom the cable car was very full so we were crammed in like sardines and there wasn't much to look at. I felt much more comfortable on the way back not because I couldn't see but because it was not as bad as I had ever imagined.
We arrived back to the camper and Dee had tea ready for us. The world cup was on and there were many cheers coming from the restaurant as they were winning. The score was 4-0. There will be many happy campers tonight.
The weather has remained fine and tomorrow is our last full day in Italy so hoping it will continue. On Wednesday we travel to Colmar in France and then back to Emsworth on Friday. It will be sad to go. It has been worth it though.
