Day 10 - Tuesday January 23, 2024 Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
Arrival 07:00 All Aboard 16:30 Departure 17:00
As per the previous stops, Insignia arrived early and was moored at Pier 2 Cruise Terminal by 06:45.
This is our last stop before making the journey over the Pacific to French Polynesia with five seadays in a row. We love Tahiti and cant wait!!
Luckily the clouds broke up and sun rose over Diamond Head.
On the walking track at 7:11, I noticed a gentleman wearing his bath robe and slippers walking towards Waves on the pool deck below for a continental breakfast. I assume that he wears a bathrobe at home so he's treating the ship as his home now just like the lady on the previous segment from Miami sitting in Baristas (Insignia's specialty coffee area) wearing her pyjamas and her own thick bath robe that she brought from home.
Honolulu was on the ATW2022 but we stayed for an overnight with two full days on Oahu. One day is not suffice to visit the island. Do we go to Pearl Harbour again, do we take a ship tour, or do we just go to Waikiki Beach for the day. We decided to take it easy and stopped at Longs Pharmacy for a Covid booster and then off to Ala Mouna Shopping Centre to find a swim suit for Janice. Unfortunately we came up short but Janice did purchase a colourful dress from Jams World.
Feeling somewhat hungry a call to Uber took us to Waikiki Beach where all the expensive name brand stores set up shop. Our stop was the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort and their Hula Grill restaurant. The table overlooked the Pacific Ocean. After sitting down, Insignia's Executive Chef Farid from France waltzed in trying to be incognito and sat next to us. We left him his privacy but treated him to lunch as we appreciate his humour and positiveness on the ship.
Rather than get another Uber we decided to wake the 5KMs (3 Mi) back to the ship. This is all the walking we will be doing for a while on land.
Our Trivia team was a person down and several people thought there wasn't a game. Again we came up short by one point. I did not stay for the marking as I wanted to take some pictures of the sailaway. It was not long after the mooring lines were brought back to the ship that we were in open seas.
It was nice to get some photos of Diamond Head in Waikiki from the ship.
I have been watching the navigational map on television when this fact came up:
- Sailed from first port, Los Angeles 2,805.7 nautical miles
- Sailed from previous port, Honolulu 21.1 nautical miles
- Remaining to next port, Rangiroa 2,237.9 nautical miles
- Remaining to last port on this segment Auckland 5,592.1 nautical miles
You cannot imagine how vast the Pacific Ocean is. This evening Oceania Currents paper made reference that it's the world's largest ocean covering about 1/3 of the Earth's surface.

Jane Harmon Know you enjoyed the islands! Bummer, we too were on Oahu the same time but over on the Ewa (west) side at Ko Olina. Normally we would stay in Waikiki for a couple of days after our Maui trip. Love Hula Grill and even better, Duke’s down below. Next time!! Looking forward to hearing about Tahiti 🌴
Martin The real adventure begins after we leave Tahiti. Hopefully I can keep up to date.
