Day Ten
Finally we made it to Hawaii -our first trip to the islands.
Day 1 takes is to Honolulu Oahu which is the capital of Hawaii.
Today was a ship tour to Pearl Harbor and a visit to the Arizona Memorial.
USS Arizona was a U.S. battleship that sank during the Japanese attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Oahu island, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. More than 1,170 crewmen were killed. The Arizona is commemorated by a concrete memorial that spans the wreckage.
The memorial includes an area with a marble plaque listing all the crewmen that were killed on that day.
The bomb entered the ship between the two front gun turrets and continued down towards the ship's amunition area. 900 men were instantly killed.
it was certainly a sobering time - like when visiting any war memorial sites where many lost their lives saving our countries.
Our tour continued towards Nu'Uanu Pali Lookout for amazing views of the island and the Pacific Ocean.
A return to the ship for a brief lunch was followed by a bus trip to Waikiki to watch the sunset. For seniors the bus cost $1.00 and $2.00 for Janice.
Waikiki was alot of fun but not a place we would want to vacation. it reminded us if a cross between Rodeo Drive with all the expensive shops and the Las Vegas strip.

Dennis Baker Nice commentary on a sad place but overall a very interesting and informative tour. Allan and I did enjoy the tour but somewhat somber. We both find Waikiki fun for one or two nights but then get me back to Maui. Have fun exploring the rest of Hawaii.
